Born of salt and water, Voskathar’s people are few across the whole world of Minera, descended from the even rarer and though-extinct Sea Dragons of the deep trenches in the Dividing Sea. His tale drove him to leave his homelands among the corals and reefs of the Divide, seeking the mastery of the Water Elemi from the northern hemisphere to defend his homeland from the encroaching evils of Quorenderi’s Spawn.
Among the shoals, shores and reefs of various archipelagos in the Dividing Sea, the Inderian Dragonkin live in harmony with the sea. Few are their numbers, and few are those who know these curious seafaring dragonkin exist. Living upon pontoons and houses stilted over the shallows the various archipelagos they inhabit, the dwellings of these people last for centuries due to the scarcity of construction materials in their homelands. Further rare is to see them using ships for travel, lest they need to carry large amounts of cargo, as most swim, even in distances over hundreds or thousands of miles.
It is in these shallow tides where Voskathar was raised, as the youngest child of the Isle of Pa’kua’s Chief. His father passed when he was still a child, and Voskathar’s eldest brother Vosmar’Sar took his place as chief, with Voskathar’s status as a noble forgotten thereafter, for only the chief’s immediate family was held in regard, and this was now his brother, nephews and nieces. Though Voskathar was not deterred to serve his people, even in his young age. He became a hydromancer, an important role within Inderian Dragonkin society, for it was they who told of coming king tides, rains, storms and surges, and were invaluable advisors to the chiefs. Yet Vosmar’Sar held little regard for the tellings of his younger brother, preferring instead to listen to the elder hydromancer who served his father. So when Voskathar foretold of a king tide that would flatten their village, his brother and chief dismissed his claims, for the elder said them to be untrue.
Yet Hundreds were left homeless and dozens dead after a roaring wave swept over them, ripping the stilts from the seabed and dragging them into the vast ocean beyond. When word passed through the village, Vosmar’Sar and the Elder Hydromancer were both stoned to death for their negligence. Though saddened by his brother’s passing, Voskathar felt something was amiss, as though a deviant plot was orchestrated for this: the forces that drove the king tide were unnatural, neither drawn by the pulls of the Glanbeli nor the swells of the great Sun Glanion, yet something insidious below the depths. Despite the pleas of his people, Voskathar set out to better understand this dark force, and his travels finally led him to the land of Tharador: here dwelt the Water Elemi of Abunor. Voskathar hoped he would learn from them there, and found himself a follower of several wise Water Elemi sages who promised to share the knowledge he sought, should he return the favour to them by aiding them in their current predicament with a group of invaders from across the sea.
