Sovram’s most loyal enforcer, an elder among his clan who was still alive in the days where the Darkscales called Dragonmaw Keep their home. It was here that his jaw was eviscerated in a duel against a Silverscale during the schism. Though he was able to salvage what he could with a master metalworker, the pain has never truly faded, decades later.

Next to Horzin, Vaakrin is the second eldest among the Darkscales, having fought in Dragonmaw Keep on the Night of Betrayal. Blood curdling death cries and the clashing of steel roused him from his sleep, as one of Sovram’s enforcers, he swiftly steeled himself and rushed to the courtyard, past the halls painted in blood and corpses of his kin. Seeing a Silverscale dragging defenseless Darkscales from their bedchambers, Vaakrin intervened, grabbing the fiend by his horns and ploughing his head into the wall, cracking both skull and stone as the attackers light was swiftly snuffed out his eyes. He had sensed betrayal was on the cards for the Silverscales, but did not think it would be so ruthless nor underhanded, to do so in the dead of night, attacking defenseless civilians.

Vaakrin dedicated the night to evacuating as many Darkscales from Dragonmaw as he could, pressing on despite the dire injuries he was enduring, blood pouring from open wounds across his body. The worst of which came when he paired against one of Azmordion’s elite knights, clad in heavy plate and wielding a double-bladed scimitar. The battle was fierce as Vaakrin ducked and weaved through the blows of the Knight. It seemed a stalemate, for he could never step close enough to land his own bone-shattering blow to the knight. Yet as other Silverscales thundered down the hall, Vaakrin knew he would not be able to fight all of them. Launching himself forward through the blade’s reach, his fist collided with an earth shattering cracking against the skull of his foe, bursting his head into red paste and ribbons across the room. Yet it was not without cost, for the Knight had defensively raised his weapon at Vaakrin, and the Darkscale had charged through it, completely severing the lower half of his jaw.

He fled thereafter, darting down the mountain alongside those he had saved. Among them was a master smith of the Darkscales. In thanks for saving his life, he was able to design and create Vaakrin’s steel lower jaw over the next few days, allowing the enforcer to live his life with an uneasy sense of normality. He could eat and drink once again, but the pain and feeling of his lost jaw never faded. Though his visage now has become something of an icon of Darkscale resilience against their foes, and Vaakrin himself a renowned folk hero among them.
