Colossals seldom worship the Tharameni beyond Horauthin: many see them as being directly responsible for the ruin of their civilization. Uktakun is one of the few exceptions to this, having a brush with death where Namneri spoke to him in a vision. When he awoke, an owl sat upon his chest, guiding him to safety. Uktakun saw the divine intervention for what it was: a call to a higher purpose. He has never strayed from that path since.
Having been raised in the Oldavori settlement of Pahadi, Uktakun was not like his Wastewalker kin. When the time came for him to brave the frozen wastes of his homeland, he was not prepared. The tribulations he faced in his journey southwards were gruelling. Blizzards, hunted by packs of Shapeshifters, close encounters with Sanguine Colossals looking for a ripe harvest of blood. It culminated with his escorts losing him in a powerful snowstorm when they were beset by a group of Watchers. For days he wandered alone through the treacherous wastes, eventually finding the coveted line where winter’s grasp loosened on the land. Though exposure, hunger and his injuries had taken their toll, and on exposure to the sudden summer heat of Greypeak; a heat he had never known, he collapsed.
In darkness his body fought a desperate battle with death, while his mind dreamed of a pallid boy with snow-white hair and sorrowful eyes holding a chalice. “Your time will come, but for now you will rise as the harbinger of my will. Arise, and faithfully follow my sentinel.”
When Uktakun awoke, an owl gently rested on his chest. His wounds had miraculously healed, and his hunger and fatigue had subsided. Whilst he did not know it yet, he had been chosen by the divine Namneri, for reasons that were at the time, mysterious to him. Though as his vision had asked, he followed the owl, leading him across the farthest reaches of the land, brought to a large golden shard the size of his hand. It would then lead him further southwards, until he was face to face with a group of clergymen from the Church of the Tharameni, who in fact had sought the artefact Uktakun carried: a shard of Namneri’s Chalice that had shattered in the time of the Rupture. Through translation spells, they heard his tale, and decided that he had been touched by the Gods. It was then seen that the divine intervention of Uktakun was true, and he was inducted into their order.
He has followed Namneri’s beckoning call for over a year now, with the latest task joining him with a Church expedition into Sudd Tohst. Though his visions lately have been more faint, he knows his patron would not call him there without reason.
