A Hexhunter who has escaped death’s talons many times. Though his moniker was earned after a fearsome battle with an Owlbear reanimated by a necromancer, resulting in his face shredded and scarred. Mortimer is a no nonsense Hexhunter, one who abides by the rules of his order, and seldom takes chances or mercy on his targets.

Within the Hexhunter colleges of Greypeak and Brightstone, Mortimer was raised. An orphan given to the order by Brightstone’s crown, like many of its initiates were, the young boy excelled in matters of the body, and showed reflexes that would rival the prowess of Elves. Even before the imbuement of arcano-crystals, he was only one rung below many of his peers who had undergone augmentation. Mortimer was thus reluctant to accept enhancements beyond what was necessary when he came of age, for many held risks to pollute one’s mind and body.

Yet as years passed, injuries compounded along with age, slowing him down, stripping him of his reputation as a fierce warrior. So often had he brushed with death that he his moniker had become “Mortimer Who Danced With Death” after a particularly gruesome injury from a reanimated Owlbear tore off half of his face. Still, it has not deterred him. He aims to continue walking the path of the Hexhunters, providing a service to the realm, as is his duty. Though his scarred visage is haunting to most who witness it, thus Mortimer often dons a mask to cover the damage inflicted upon him, and is slow to ever remove it, or any articles of clothes that might show the scars across his body.

Mortimer has thus earned a reputation as a Hexhunter of great constitution, as most others would have perished from the wounds he has been dealt over the years. With his resilience and fortitude to press on, his moniker has become more of a term of admiration, as other members of his order see his commitment as something to aspire to, rather than mock. Though truthfully, Mortimer seeks his death in these current times, just in a way that it would honour his place as a Hexhunter, whether it be saving a young child from the maw of a beast or perishing to bloodloss after slaying a monstrosity; he simply wishes for a heroes’ death.
