Sent on an expedition by the WEHL to the uncharted Godless Isle far from Tharador’s coast, Illirian was the sole survivor to return from the lost fleet. With him, he carried ancient secrets from the forgotten Anshani civilization of Edrador, which he used to construct his advanced prosthetic arm, lost to disease on the isle. Since his return, Illirian has been a changed man. Distant, cold and aloof, yet still dedicated to his work within the WEHL.

A member of the WEHL for years, Illirian was an artificer and scholarly expert in the technologies of the lost Anshani Empire of Edrador. In a voyage to Edrador, the WEHL fleet Illirian was part of was sent adrift from strange sea currents, damaged by storm waters. They found refuge on an unmapped isle in the middle of the Tharadori Ocean, far from the shores of any major continent. Yet it was only days after their arrival in the midst of repairs that the fleet was assailed: an onslaught of strange tribal Orcs led by Anshani Soulforged. The expeditioners were not prepared for such an assault, and were ruthlessly slaughtered as the Soulforged set fire to their ships and drove the survivors into the jungles of the isle.

Illirian was among these survivors, who barely managed to scrape by, managing to cover their tracks as they fled into the jungle. Yet as days went by, he and the few survivors he was with did not perish to the roaming Orc tribes, but to diseases and illness contracted from foraged and hunted food, as well as the few pockets of streamwater they could find on the island. Ailments had also set into Illirian’s body, his arm becoming gangrenous after a minor wound sustained in the attack quickly grew infected. Whilst he prayed they might come across a healer from the fleet in the jungle who might treat them, his prayers remained unanswered. Those among him fell one by one, and in his own waning strength, Illirian made the difficult decision to amputate his own arm and cauterize the wound. The pain was unbearable, his mind sparing him by stealing his consciousness until it subsided. When he awoke, he thought himself dead, for just beyond him was an Anshani ruin, hidden beneath the verdant veil of the jungle.

There he spent the next several weeks, using tomes left by the ancients to identify edible flora in the forest, as well as create a makeshift means of using alchemy sets to purify his drinking water. From there his understanding of the ruin, Falashar, deepened. It seemed the isle was some sort of research post for the Anshani in the twilight years of their empire, before their sudden disappearance. Though most importantly, he found a means to construct a replacement arm for himself, through components kept in pristine vaults within the ruins, and the blueprints to accompany them. His new metal arm could act as a conduit to cast powerful spells, as well as deliver powerful strikes of its own. With it, he was able to use it as a conduit to connect to one of the WEHL’s teleportation circles on Tharador, freeing him from the isle which he would later dub as Godless. It was on Illirian’s stories of the isle that the WEHL would later send its fleet, though even well prepared then, they almost fell into ruin. Had Illirian been present, their losses may not have been so grievous, but he made a promise to himself to never return there. Now he serves the WEHL as a lead researcher of Breath Infused Technologies, as well as a hunter for creatures that have allegedly been uplifted by such technologies, such as those suspected to belong to Baldur’s “Project Glass Ceiling” program.
