Known by many as the Harbinger of War, Horauthin has truly earned such a moniker. Though many forget that Peace is also his domain. Horauthin champions war as a necessity against evil, but Peace as the status quo at all other times and is said to weigh down heavily on the souls of those who wageunjust wars. Horauthin is worshipped as the God Ancestor of most Colossals, but many temples and shrines to him may be found across Tharador, particularly in major cities or militaristic societies. Now he wages his own war on behalf of his brother Namneri, so that they might rebuild his shattered Chalice and staunch the tide of death unleashed by the evils of Nosmarka.
The Divine of War & Peace, father of the race of Colossals and twin brother to the Divine of Truth & Justice, Erdrydion. Horauthin’s legacy is one of the greatest of the Latterborn Tharameni, having stemmed the tide of death onset by Mindoriel’s Dark Spawn and faced Mindoriel herself in single combat. It was here that he sustained a grievous wound, his shield arm shattered by a constant barrage of her swords wreathed in ice and fire. Rather than have his arm healed by his sister Cedhelieth at the cost of a shard of her own, he chose to instead have the arm hewed and the blade of his glaive Severance hafted to it. No longer did he cower behind a shield, for he became an instrument of anger, vengeance and hatred upon Mindoriel and her Spawn.
With this weapon in his shield arm and a sword in his mainhand, he became an unstoppable force, cleaving Mindoriel’s armies to pieces and easily defeating even her most powerful generals. He led the armies of his own spawn, the Velgaryn (Colossals) against her, a brutish race inspired by the sight of their god ancestor fighting alongside them. They gladly threw themselves upon the shield walls of their enemies if it meant doing so under the eyes of Horauthin. Together, alongside his siblings, they turned the tide of the war. While Tharnais and Renmaeth bestowed knowledge of the Breath unto the Beremeni, Horauthin and Erdrydion bestowed knowledge of warfare and tactics onto the Velgaryn.
When the war had ended, the Velgaryn left the lands of the Beremeni, returning to their own homes far in Tharador’s north. There they proliferated unchecked, and without a source of evil to focus their violence towards, it quickly focused on each other. The strongest of the clans reigned supreme after hundreds of years of war, and now united, they sought to continue their expansion into the lands of the Beremeni, felting they were owed as much after the sacrifices of their ancestors. When asked to intervene, Horauthin refused, not wishing to condemn nor influence the acts of his creations, as he too shared their sentiment after the suffering they had endured in defense of the Beremeni. This act of defiance saw Horauthin exiled from the divine tower of Syelden for an age, and ultimately led to the demise of Tharador himself who spent the last of his energy to create the race of Men as a foil to the rampaging Velgaryn. It was Tharador’s hope that a people with the wisdom and cunning of the Elves but the hardiness and resilience of the Velgaryn would temper the Empire’s advance.
He was right, and the Velgaryn ultimately destroyed themselves in an act of desperation as they lost the seven century long war they waged against Men. After freezing themselves with the Vavanasai, Horauthin wept at the annihilation of his creations. Though some persisted, they were utterly defeated, reduced to a number less than there had ever been, even in the Age of Creation. It was in this grief that the Tharameni finally invited their brother back to his home in Syelden. With old rifts repaired, he continued to lead the Tharameni’s armies in defense against the forces of Mindoriel’s Spawn when necessary. With the destruction of Namneri’s Chalice, he volunteered himself to be the one divine to return to the mortal plane and fight alongside both mortals and the Selvaneri as they desperately tried to repair the font of souls.
