The youngest of the Himlingr daughters, Frøya’s domain is life and the forests of Nordheim. Diametrically opposed to her eldest sister, Hel, Frøya is still bound to her command as the youngest sibling. With their father vanished, and no guidance elsewhere to aid her, she reluctantly follows her sister’s orders, though she cannot help but feel wrong in doing so. Her only companion now is her faithful hound, Jaga.
As the youngest child of the Himlingr family, Frøya was often held to the scrutiny of her siblings, her thoughts dismissed and retorted, her concerns always paved over by the stony, unwavering arguments of her elder siblings, in particular her eldest sister Hel. The sole exception to this was their eldest brother, who was her sole confidant, and closest friend. Frøya found he empathized with much of her ideals and concerns, her love of the land, of the forest and its critters, and her want to protect them, whilst her siblings and parents called her daft for trying to humanize their food.
When he perished to the falling star, Frøya entered an almost catatonic state, one that she was held in even after his funeral and the family’s awakening to their newfound divine abilities. In this state, even with her abilities, she became completely subservient to the orders of her family, as the listless feeling left within her by her brother’s death did not fade, nor heal. When their father rescinded his powers and disappeared into the wilderness, she was left to the mercy of her eldest sister, Hel, who had become the embodiment of bitterness and cruelty; the inverse of their older brother. Hel dominated her younger sister with an iron grasp of her mind, layering guilt upon her for their brother’s demise, going so far as to blame Frøya herself for his death, in that she should have perished in his place.
The onslaught of horrors inflicted upon Frøya by her eldest sister, alongside her brother’s death left her with little will to continue. She simply existed to serve the will of her sister, using her divine abilities to instill famines in the populaces that worked against her, and reward those whose worship and sacrifices were plentiful. Yet Frøya knew she was committing an evil, she knew she could not rebel against her sister on her own. The only refuge given to her from her sibling’s evils are in the deepest hearts of the woods, in a hidden grove carved and masked in the foothills of the mountains. It is there she lies and weeps, finding her only comfort in the embrace of her animal friends. It is only here that one might be able to talk sense into her, in hopes of lighting a fire in her heart to fight against her wicked sister.
