A Catfolk hailing from Zandoriel, Raiko like many of his kin was sold into slavery on Edrador as a cub. Though his buyers were not ones to turn him into a servant, but a weapon. He was purchased by the Unseen Wardens, alongside many of his kin. Given a choice of leaving with their freedom or fighting for those who bought their freedom, Raiko was one of the few who chose the latter. Now, in repaying his debt, he acts as one of their scouts in searching for the Cult of the Coiled serpent, far across the Sea from whence they fled.

Raiko’s story began in the dense, untamed forests of Zandoriel, where the Tabaxi lived free, their society fluid and shaped by the rhythms of nature. But that freedom was stolen from him as a cub. Like many of his kin, he was captured and sold into slavery, bound for Edrador. His fate, like that of the others, seemed grim and uncertain, until he and his kin were bought by the Unseen Wardens.

From the moment they were purchased, life took an unexpected turn. The Wardens did not immediately reveal their true nature to Raiko or the others. Instead, they were housed, clothed, and educated, treated more like students than slaves. The Wardens provided them with a structured environment, far from the chains and degradation of typical slavery. They were taught reading, writing, and philosophy, as well as physical training. The children grew up in an atmosphere of discipline, their bodies strengthened, and their minds sharpened. At no point in this time did the Wardens reveal their true intent or nature to the children, instead proclaiming their school to be an institute dedicated to giving slaves a second chance.

For years, Raiko and his kin believed they were simply being raised by benevolent benefactors, far removed from the harsh fate of other slaves. As they approached adulthood, however, the truth began to surface. The Wardens revealed themselves not just as educators, but as part of a secretive organisation that fought in the shadows against unseen threats to the world. Raiko and the others were given a choice: they could leave with their freedom, no strings attached, or they could stay and join the ranks of the Wardens, using all they had learned to become something far greater than they had ever imagined.

Raiko, unlike most of his kin, chose to stay. His years of education and training had instilled in him a sense of purpose, a desire to wield the strength and knowledge he had gained in service of something larger. He never regretted his choice. He became the weapon the Wardens sought, honing his skills as a monk, channelling the fierce nature of the tiger within him. Every strike was precise, every movement calculated, a result of years of discipline.

Now, Raiko serves the Wardens with unwavering loyalty, driven by a deep sense of duty. The Cult of the Coiled Serpent, the Wardens’ greatest enemy, is his target. For Raiko, this is not just a fight for his people or his freedom, but a chance to prove that even those born into chains can rise to become something far greater. While he searches Tharador for the Cult of the Coiled Serpent, he does not shy away from matters that might benefit his (and the Wardens’) coffers. A mysterious travelling merchant has offered him a bounty of gold to search the depths of a nearby castle, and Raiko has happily taken him up on said offer.
